What Is Growing In Your Gardens ?

Posted on: April 14, 2008 8:39 pm
So whats everyone going to grow or already has growing this year.

As for me I have several varieties of Daffodils, early mid and late bloomong varietires, milti-flowering and double flowering varieties. Some all yellow some whitre with yellow centewr and some yellow with red centers.

Tulips too many varieties to mention, red white yellow purple and multicolored.

Hyacinths in yellow white pink red purple and blue.

Day Lillies, Asian Liillies

Peonies, red white and pink

White Shasta Daisies

a flowering White Star Magnolia

Beared Iris Cerulean Blue and white with Yellow beards.

English Tea Roses (red)

White and Purple Lilacs

--------

Now onto the Urban Orchard

Peaches

Nectarines

Grapes (white seedless and red seedless)

Red Lake Currants

Red Rasberries

--------

Thats what I have so far but I will probably add another grape (concord) and when I get rid of the dying maple I may add another fruit  tree.

--------

The perennial flower beds are becoming too thick and will have to be dug up this fall and everything divided. (More Flowers) in expanded beds. The peonies are monsters and I dont know what to do with them.

What Is Growing In Your Gardens ?

My place has absolutely raw native vegetation for as far as I can see on all sides. I love it, and will not intrude upon it. I do love to visit at formal gardens, or an arboretum, and love organic produce. Having lived so long in The City prohibits me from altering  a natural design.  Your place sounds outstanding. I hope the weather favors you, and that the nastier insects favor your neighbors

What Is Growing In Your Gardens ?

Well, my Indian Hawthornes and Azaleas are in bloom.  I planted two hydrangeas this past weekend along with some phlox.  My camelia's are done blooming.  I'm in the process of cutting down the holly bushes.  My pots have fuschia which seems to be thriving well (remind me to water today).  My magnolia is about to bloom and the prairiefire crabapples are in the process of having their blooms turn to leaves.  I have a gardenia in the back that will provide a delicious scent on summer nights.

What Is Growing In Your Gardens ?

Timely post! I'm moving soon to a whole new region and have pecan trees--I think that's what they are-and plan on trying to grow jalepenos, tomatoes, as well as some assorted herbs and what-have-yous. That way, I can make my very own salsa. But I want to keep everything in pots to conserve water. In the frontyard, I'm going to use the natural landscape for horse-cripplers, prickly pears, and I might go steal some sotol or ocatillo or yucca from the surrounding area. I've heard you can make salsa from yuccas too, but I don't know how yet. As for flowers and good scents from the wild, I don't know what will be easy to grow, so it's a wait and see. But I'd really like to get some lavender and sage going if it's possible.

Button Tops, lantana, and look out for the swarms of beautiful butterflies.

What Is Growing In Your Gardens ?

Thanks, JD. I'll check lantana out. I'm moving from a tree-happy, lake-loving area to semi-arid high plains, which is code for constant wind, dirt storms, and hail, apparently, so I am way out of my element as far as what's good to grow. My greatest trick will be to get to those swarms of butterflies to sort of hover above my yard and provide constant shade. We'll see how that'll work!

What Is Growing In Your Gardens ?

Here in Augusta, Maine, it's just starting to feel like spring.  We bought our first house right around New Year's, and now we're getting to see what perennials the previous owners had here. Our pale yellow daffodils are now in full bloom (they sprouted up through the snow) as are white and purple crocuses. There are also some indigo colored little things I don't recognize...I also planted a couple of narcissus that we got as a giveaway at the local Home and Garden show last weekend.

Take your best guess.    Ironically, it is 18th today which makes it almost 4/20.    :)

I've got 4 huge roses bushes, daffofils, tulips, some ferns, lots of mint, snapdragons and a bunch of items that I have no idea as to what their names are.   lol

Cheers!
